Why should I apply for the Football Scholarship programme?

Do you have a passion for football and want to combine this with a BTEC Sport qualification in Sports Development and Coaching? Ashton on Mersey School Football Scholarship programme provides excellent football development and coaching alongside outstanding Sixth Form study opportunities.

In addition to this, you will also have the opportunity to obtain industry standard qualifications including; 1st4Sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football, FA Youth Module 1, FA Referee Qualification, and First Aid qualifications. You will have the opportunity to implement and develop your newly acquired skills through the coaching of Trafford School Boys’ teams as well as local school teams.

Whilst studying you will compete in the North West Colleges’ League and train with experienced FA and UEFA qualified coaches. Taking part in a programme which will focus on your fitness, nutrition and improving your technical ability, preparing you for the next stage in your chosen career.

The Scholarship programme will allow you to successfully combine training and games with your educational commitments, thus making Ashton on Mersey Sixth Form a unique place to study.

What will I study?

The areas you will study include Careers in Exercise and Fitness, Coaching and Leadership, Sports Development and the Outdoors. The course has been structured to allow you maximum flexibility in selecting optional units, so that particular interests and career aspirations within the sport and active leisure sector can be reflected in the choice of unit combinations.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through l00% coursework, there are no examinations. All units will be completed gradually throughout the course giving students time to reach their full potential and exceed their targets.

Entry Requirements

On successful completion of football trials, candidates will be invited to attend individual guidance meetings.
