Why should I study Sport?

Sport currently sits in the top 15 industrial sectors in England with more than 36,000 employers creating work for more than 600,000 employees. BTEC Sport gives you the opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to higher education in sport or related areas. It also gives you the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

What will I study?

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels. In this Sport and Physical Activity Development course you will cover fifteen units over the two year course, including Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training, Sports Psychology, Sports Performance Analysis, Sports Leadership and the Technical and Tactical Demands of Sport.

How will I be assessed?

70% of this course will be assessed coursework and 30% will be a combination of controlled assessment and a written examination. This is a practical, work related course and you will learn by completing tasks and assignments that are based on realistic situations.

Next steps

This course will give you the skills to progress into higher education working towards a career in sports therapy, sport and exercise science, sport rehabilitation, teaching or sports coaching.

Entry Requirements

5 Full Course GCSEs at grade A*- C including English Language and Mathematics at grade 4 or above.

To study this subject a minimum GCSE grade B or equivalent qualification in P.E. is required.
